Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders
Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs) are issues related to the muscles and functions of the face and mouth, especially when they affect things like breathing, speaking, chewing, swallowing, and even facial growth or posture. They're typically related to improper habits or muscle use, especially involving the tongue, lips, jaw, and face.

What we offer
Myofunctional Therapy
Orofacial myofunctional therapy helps retrain the muscles to work the right way — like getting the tongue to rest in the proper spot, breathe through the nose instead of the mouth, and swallow without pushing the tongue forward.
Therapy focuses on improving how these muscles function, especially when it comes to:
Tongue posture
Swallowing
Breathing
Facial growth
Speaking
Chewing
Signs & Symptoms
Do you suffer from any of these?
People with myofunctional habits can identify many symptoms, but are often unable to tie it all together. An orofacial myologist will help identify the concerns and educate the patient on why treatment is necessary. The symptoms, or concerns, of the patient include but are not limited to the following:
Mouth Breathing
Orthodontic Relapse
Chronic Tension
Jaw Pain
Noxious Oral Habits
Tongue Thrust
Snoring
Chronic Headaches
Grinding
Swallowing Difficulty
Tongue Tie
Speech Problems
Sleep Apnea
Cheek or Lip Biting
Clenching
Oral resting position means where the muscles of the mouth are at rest. When the tongue cannot rest inside the roof of the mouth and the lips do not stay closed, teeth become crowded, faces grow to be longer and the airway can be compromised.
